Researchers say the tendencies translate into tips for designing websites. Specific parts of the brain relate to specific marketing methods. Each part of the brain has it’s own purpose and how it translates information being processed, there are four different types of the brain. We have the Frontal, Temporal, Occipital Lobe, and then the Amygdala. For example: The Frontal Lobe is associated with planning, logic and motivation. It considers options and consequences of actions. The Temporal Lobe plays a part in language comprehension. Occipital Lobe is the visual processor of the brain, color and motion perception. Amygdala is the key in formation and storage of emotional memories.

 Serial Position Effect

You want to catch your readers attention. Put your important stuff at the beginning and end. It’s a known fact that, when trying to go to a store and you give someone a list of things over the phone they remember only the first few and last few and the middle is hard to remember. That’s due to short-term memory. When referring to a web design page, readers will tend to remember what you have at the beginning or your site and at the end.

Loss Aversion

We all tend to overvalue losses because they are more painful and undervalue gains are pleasurable. Useful tips for web designers and copywriters would be, to make sure you emphasize immediate gains, create urgency with limited time offers being given and emphasize the costs of not using your service or product.

Herd Behavior

People tend to follow others and do what they do. A few ways to grab their attention would be to, have social media widgets showing the size of your following, to have endorsements from relevant influences and also testimonials from clients or reviews from customers.

Language

You don’t want to use long sentences and fancy words forcing the temporal lobe to work harder. You want your labels and navigation to be easy to read and follow. It’s not about dumbing things down, it’s about using simple language that everyone of all ages can understand. The normal reading standard is 8th grade level.

Restorff Effect

1930 a German scientist goes by the name of Hedwig von Restorff. He discovered that people remember items if they are color different from others. Your occipital lobe is sensitive to visual differences.

Emotions

According to the eye tracking headlines that show emotion about anger, anxiety and inspiration tend to get shared the most and sparks someone attention when they first look at the site.
